Apple Patents Two-Way LCD Screen
Apple has submitted a patent application for an LCD screen that can display images as well as capture a shot of what’s in front of it. According to an article at NewScientist, the device would contain “thousands of microscopic image sensors in-between the liquid crystal display cells in the screen. Each sensor captures its own small image, but software stitches these together to create a single, larger picture.”
In addition to the obvious use in videoconferencing, the Web site speculates that the invention could be used in a cell phone or PDA as a way to both snap photos and display information.

This track was written back in 2004, with the original plan being that the original mix would come out on Lot49 last year as the second 12″ in a double pack (the first 12 ” was released in 2005, featuring Pure & Free and the PMT remix of Reclaim the Airwaves).
The original was never released, but if you want to hear it for reference purposes, then it’s online at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/shackforce
So, this is your chance to remix the track yourselves. The parts are now up & available for one month from the tech funk forum, within the member-only area. You need to be a member, and to be logged in for this to appear.

WIDI Audio To MIDI VST automatically transcribes an arbitrary polyphonic audio track into MIDI output (i.e. Audio & MIDI).
With this plugin you can:
- Turn an original audio record into corresponding MIDI stream.
- Get instant Wave-to-MIDI transcription while playing a musical instrument.
- Play back MIDI output “as is” or use it to control MIDI-driven effects.
- Synchronize your MIDI device output with specific audio events.
The resulting MIDI events can be sent to the VST host, System MIDI Out Device or to a MIDI file. A spectrum window displays streaming spectrogram in real-time, as well as recognized notes. Adjustable recognition parameters allow to improve recognition quality.

With Mac OS X Tiger Apple introduced a convenient way to create your own graphical effects: The Quartz Composer. Sadly by default these could only be used as screen saver or run in Quicktime.
With iVisualize it is finally possible to run these in iTunes, have them react to sour music and display a lot of song information.
iVisualize comes with 4 visualizations and you can download more or create your own it’s up to you.
